Ford Mustang Continues as World's Best-Selling Sports Coupe

For 58 years, the Ford Mustang has been the powerful sports coupe that drivers in White Hall and beyond have coveted. Based on data from S&P Global Mobility, the Mustang has been the best-selling sports coupe in the world for the last seven years. This may be thanks to its iconic, powerful design coupled with a range of well-engineered powertrain options. Some of its more notable modern options are the Mustang Shelby GT500 and the Mustang Mach 1.

While the Mustang is popular in markets around the world, it is most popular in the United States. U.S. sales account for 76% of the Mustang's global sales. Popularity in some overseas markets has dramatically increased as of 2021. For example, New Zealand saw a growth in sales of 54.3%, and Brazil's sales numbers grew by 37.3%. Mustang custom orders have also increased. They doubled in 2021.

In 2022, Ford introduced five new Mustang special editions. These include the Ice White, the Shelby GT 500 Heritage Edition, the Stealth, the Coastal Limited, and the GT California Special. There are also several new color choices for the 2022 model year. These include Mischievous Purple Metallic, Grabber Blue Metallic, Eruption Green Metallic, Dark Matter Gray Metallic, Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat, and Atlas Blue. Exclusively for the Shelby GT 500 Heritage and the Coastal Limited, Brittany Blue Metallic is available. The Shelby GT 500 is also now available in Code Orange.

The Mustang Mach-E made waves when it was released in 2021. Since its release, it has garnered many awards. These include a 2022 World Car of the Year finalist mention, the 2022 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award, the 2022 Wards Best Award, the Car and Driver 2021 EV of the Year Award, and the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
